Illustration Symposium.
I recently attended the final day of the Shadow Play Illustration Symposium in Cardiff. Beforehand I only had a rudimentary idea of what a Symposium actually was. When I submitted my 700 word abstract based loosely on the themes of “pictures” and “why they’re great” I truly didn’t expect to be selected to present a paper on the 4th of November.  But in all fairness, my abstract did use a few...

This phrase was heavily influenced by my collections project which deals with the notion of people becoming forgotten and neglected things. In the end my book design has approached this issue from the opposing angle; this book is from the perspective of the person...

Current Influences: Adult and Infant...
Paula Rego’s Graphic work:   In this image you can see the use of harsh shadows, minimalist backgrounds and subtly disturbing subject matter to enthral and unnerve the viewer. I have tried to use similar techniques in my drawings for my Collections project. Susan Varley, The Monster Bed:   A very early childhood influence I cannot escape, the pose of the forgotten woman in my recent drawings...

Collections Project - Forgotten Things
This suitcase, itself a charity shop find, is full of forgotten and neglected items. This is my collection. We were asked to officially start one for an Illustration project which began way back in the summer. This project could have easily been called “Amateur Crafts”; not all of these objects are handmade, but my favourites are :o). If I had classified my project as Amateur Crafts...
